20 year old Quentin Roosevelt, youngest son of Theodore Roosevelt, is the only child of a US President ever to die in war. Theodore Roosevelt was intensely critical of Woodrow Wilson’s attempt to keep the US out of World War I and always enthusiastic about the use of American military force. But after his aviator son was shot down behind enemy lines the elder Roosevelt was devastated. His biographers report he never recovered and died the following year at the age of 61. He found that war is no adventure and the cost can be unbearable.
